HHS stands for the US Department of Health and Human Services. Their mission is to enhance the health and well-being of all Americans, by providing for effective health and human services and by fostering sound, sustained advances in the sciences underlying medicine, public health, and social services.

The HHS was created when the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW), was split up into multiple departments in 1979, which also introduced the Federal Department of Education. It provides what’s known as essential human services to all Americans.
